Centrica Womens Network Arctic Challenge 2014

Luminous Photography was recently asked to turn up in a Windsor Park to photograph a Nordic skiing training session of the Centrica Women's Network who will be off to the Arctic in March to raise money for ROSA.  Naturally I was curious, so who are the Centrica Womens Network.....

"We are a team of 25 women from the, from all levels of the business, and at all stages of our careers. Together we’ll be raising £25,000 for the Centrica Women’s Network nominated charity Rosa.

We will be doing this by taking part in the Centrica Women's Network Arctic Challenge. The Arctic Challenge is a unique opportunity provided by Centrica for a team of women to push ourselves beyond both our physical and mental comfort zones. The challenge takes place in March 2014. The location for this year’s challenge is the Norwegian Arctic Circle, in temperatures as low as minus thirty degrees Celsius.

Over five days we will have to tackle a number of physically demanding challenges including cross country Nordic skiing, snowshoeing, building snow shelters and a 60km dog sled.  As you can see we have already started training for the challenge!

Money raised from this exciting venture will go to ROSA. Rosa is a charitable fund set up to support initiatives that benefit women and girls in the UK. Because, while many women and girls here do enjoy freedom of choice and the opportunity for success in their lives, that’s simply not true for all. Their vision is of equality and justice for all women and girls in the UK.

Women aren’t short of ideas to help create positive change in their lives, but they are often short of the money needed to turn those ideas into reality. That’s why Rosa was launched in 2008 – to help raise more money for women’s projects and organisations".

The Nordic walking training was kindly volunteered by Anthea Osborn-Jones, Qualified Nordic Walking Instructor. Plus a big thanks goes to South Oxfordshire District Council Go Active programme who lent some of the poles to the group!

Good luck to all involved
